Stock Market ETF Strategy And How To Invest

Stock Market Rally

The stock market closed out 2021 with mild, weak action on Friday. That extended the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite’s losing streak to four sessions. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 fell for a second straight day.

Despite the weakness, the market outlook remains in a “confirmed uptrend.” This gives investors a green light to buy top-rated growth stocks breaking out past correct buy points.

Friday’s The Big Picture commented: “Investors should show prudence going into the new year, but there is reason for optimism. History shows that when the S&P 500 gains 20{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} or more in a calendar year it averages a gain of 7.7{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} the next, according to Dow Jones market data. In addition, the median return in the following year is a gain of 10.2{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809}.”

LI stock continues to work on a new base, after triggering the 7{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809}-8{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} loss-cutting sell rule below a cup-with-handle base’s 34.93 buy point in early December. Shares surged above their 50-day moving average last week, which is bullish price action as the stock looks to build the right side of a new base.

Nio delivered 10,489 vehicles, up 49.7{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} year over year, but down slightly from November’s 10,878. LCID stock remains extended past a 28.49 buy point in a cup-with-handle base, but huge gains have faded. Shares are setting up for another try to retake the 50-day line, which would be a positive for the stock’s consolidation.

CBS News poll: A year after Jan. 6, violence still seen threatening U.S. democracy, and some say force can be justified

Even as so many Americans decry the events of January 6, the day has had lasting impacts on the nation’s psyche, the most immediate of which is that millions of Americans think more violence is coming, and that democracy itself might be threatened.

The reality — and this won’t allay all those fears — is that there are some Americans who generally view force or political violence undertaken by others as justifiable, depending on the situation. That applies to the violence on January 6, and to a few for whom 2020 remains unsettled, but also extends to other issues, from abortion to gun policy to civil rights. And it’s partially related to beliefs that political opponents are an existential threat, or being convinced they’ll do worse to you. We stress this is not how most people feel, and that those who do are a low number in percentage terms. But then, we’ve also seen that it doesn’t take large numbers to provoke these wider concerns in the nation.

So, when people feel democracy is threatened, their concerns about violence become even more critical, and here’s where public opinion really matters: democracy depends on its citizens adhering to its norms both because they believe in them, and because they expect others will, too.

More violence to come?

The implications of January 6 are reverberating through the polity: two-thirds see the events as a harbinger of increasing political violence, not an isolated incident. That leads to larger misgivings. When people see it as a sign of increasing violence, they’re more likely to think violence is a reason democracy is threatened.

13-capitol-increase-violence.png

1-democracy-today-is.png

January 6 views — then and now

The events of January 6 were widely condemned when they happened and still are today by majorities of both parties. But there is an alternative set of descriptors and interpretations of those events, and of what should happen next, largely on the right, along with a softening of their disapproval that’s worthy of attention.

4-approve-capitol-actions-with-trend.png

Despite overall disapproval of the events on January 6, Republicans do stand apart from others in offering descriptions that are less harsh. One, the intensity with which Republicans disapprove softened over the summer and has stayed softer. A year ago, most Republicans strongly disapproved, but today, their disapproval is spread between strongly and a bit more only somewhat disapproving.

Americans who no longer strongly disapprove are less likely to describe the day’s events as an insurrection than they were in January. They are also much likelier to consume conservative media than those consistent in strongly disapproving.

Moreover, four in 10 Republicans have a different conception of who was involved in the first place, saying most of those who forced their way into the Capitol were left-leaning groups pretending to be Trump supporters.

7-capitol-actions-by-party.png

Outright approval of what happened comes only from a minority of Americans, but it certainly is there. Those who approve are younger and use right-leaning news sources and social media more, but they also have what seem like larger items than just their views about 2020 or an election. They are more likely to say the United States should divide into “red” and “blue” countries. There’s a relationship between approval and conspiracy theories: among Americans who think QAnon ideas are at least probably true, approval of the Capitol events goes up to 50{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809}.

39-capitol-by-q.png

Descriptions of what happened are also similar to how they were a year ago after it happened. People widely call it a protest that went too far, but how much further becomes more partisan. Most Americans — including most Democrats, but just a fifth of Republicans — call it an insurrection and describe it as an attempt to overturn the election and the government.

9-capitol-descriptors-by-party.png

Four in 10 Republicans say those who went into the Capitol were actually left-leaning groups pretending to be Trump supporters.

12-trump-supporters-capitol.png

Only a quarter of Americans call what happened “patriotism” or “defending freedom.” They tend to be on the political right, identifying as conservatives. When asked why they describe it that way, they say those who entered the Capitol were “exercising their right to protest” and drawing attention to (what they see as) election fraud — more than twice as often as they say January 6 participants were trying to stop the electoral count, per se. So, they are still supportive of the act, even though it didn’t meet its alleged goals, which could partially explain why they’re also willing to see other actions as justified.

10-jan-6-why-patriot.png

What should Trump do next?

So, what do they want now? There is 12{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} of the country, and a fifth of Trump’s 2020 voters, that want Trump to fight to retake the presidency right now, before the next election.

When we follow up with them on that idea, they mostly say they would like to see that done through legal channels. But then a third of the people within that 12{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} say he should use force if necessary. While that only amounts to 4{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} of the population, it still translates into millions of Americans effectively willing to see a forceful change in the executive branch.

42-trump-do-now.png

The specter hanging over the next election

In particular — and perhaps because it’s still so tangible — a majority of the nation now expect there will be violence from the losing side of a future presidential election.

We then followed up and asked, “If that’s your side that loses and there is in fact violence, would you be in favor of that or not?” It’s an abstraction right now, of course, and a mere 2{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} would favor it. But another quarter left it open, saying it depends on the circumstance — and in that, we start to see political differences, with 2020 Trump voters twice as likely as Biden voters to say that it depends.

Specifically, those who claim widespread voter fraud in 2020 and those who don’t consider Biden legitimate now are relatively more likely to be in favor, should violence occur after their side loses a future election. And they’re more likely to say that violence over election results might be justified in general.

It’s not just elections

The idea of political violence historically isn’t confined to anger over elections, of course. And to be clear, most don’t condone it on the left or right. But there are some Americans who could see justification for political violence over some issues, at least in principle. We’d also stress this by no means suggests they would do it themselves.

Gun policies, abortion policies, civil rights, labor issues, and even vaccine and coronavirus issues are each issues at least a quarter of Americans say are important enough that violence might be justified, depending on the situation.

34-issue-important-viol-justified.png

Among liberals and Democrats, about four in 10 say civil rights and equality issues are important enough that violence might be justified over them, and a quarter name labor issues and abortion policies. For the right — that is, conservatives and Republicans — it’s more likely to be gun policies and election results, with about four in ten saying force might be justified on these issues.

Then there’s how people respond to political actors who might call for violence, or otherwise violate political norms. It’s 14{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} who feel that elected officials or candidates might be justified in calling for violence in public speeches. This is somewhat lower than the one in five who say that public insults might be justified.

36-justifed-polit-candidates.png

Within each group, those who would justify violence tend to be younger, and somewhat more ideologically extreme — that is, identifying as very liberal or conservative. It’s important to note they also report being less likely to vote, which may reflect an inclination to seek political outcomes by other, less traditional means.

But it’s also associated with attitudes toward opponents: the partisans among them are more inclined to think the other side threatens their way of life and less likely to favor compromise in general.

On that, too, we see what looks like a vicious circle: Americans who consider violence potentially justified aren’t necessarily eager for it, but may feel it is forced upon them. For example, looking at people who say that calls for force from political leaders can be justified, about half say this approach can be justified because their opponents do the same or worse.

37-why-call-justified-opponents-worse.png

This is not wholly relegated to one ideology or political party, because on several issues, like labor issues, civil rights, abortion, and vaccines, we find comparable numbers of Democrats and Republicans saying violence might be justified, though Republicans are more apt to say so on elections and guns. Across all six issues tested, Republicans are slightly more likely than Democrats to select at least one issue as important enough to possibly justify violence. The formation of citizen militias — which for the purposes of this study, is not directly measuring action or violence — is acceptable to three in 10 Americans, driven by those on the right.

35-militia-harms-justified.png

The good news?

It’s not necessarily related to violence but speaks to some of the mood that underpins animosity: not all partisans think of the opposition as enemies threatening their way of life. Those who do tend to be more ideological, though. And few Americans favor the idea — as far-fetched as it might be — of a “national divorce” between red and blue states.

38-divide-red-blue.png

Given all this, going forward, the important divisions into 2022 and beyond might be not just along partisan lines, but between that large group of Americans who don’t condone violence, along with those who don’t see themselves as engaged in an existential struggle with an opposing party, and those smaller numbers who do.

What does run throughout public sentiment, though, is that wider apprehension about the state of democracy, and that measure may be the most important of all to watch. On a certain level, democracy has to be self-reinforcing; when people adhere to its norms, they need to believe and trust in its stability, particularly that others will adhere to them as well.

This CBS News/YouGov survey was conducted with a nationally representative sample of 2,063 U.S. adult residents interviewed between December 27-30, 2021. Can probiotics slow cognitive decline?

  • A recent review suggests that probiotics may improve cognitive function or lessen cognitive decline in adults but not children.
  • The current studies available for analysis had limitations affecting data interpretation and conclusions.
  • Robust evidence from large, well-designed randomized-controlled trials is needed to determine the effects and real-world applications conclusively.

The human microbiome is the community of bacteria, fungi, and viruses that inhabit our bodies, directly affecting our health.

Amazingly, scientists estimate that there could be similar numbers of microbes in the body as there are human cells.

The microbes that live on or in our bodies help protect us from organisms that cause disease. Some also promote immune system development and aid in digestion. Scientists believe that a two-way relationship between the brain and the gut exists, though they do not entirely understand it yet.

When scientists modify the gut microbiome in mice experiments, it induces behavioral and cognitive changes. These changes also alter levels of substances essential to learning, reasoning, and memory in the mice.

Other studies suggest that changes in the gut microbiome make-up may contribute to the development and progression of cognitive impairment seen in Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, major depressive disorder (MDD), and Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Scott Kaiser, director of geriatric cognitive health for the Pacific Neuroscience Institute at Providence Saint John’s Health Center, who was not involved in the paper, spoke with Medical News Today:

“There’s a mounting body of evidence showing clear connections between our gut health and our brain health, and specifically within gut health […] the constellation of different types and proportions of bacteria.”

The new systematic review came from researchers at the University of Reading, in the United Kingdom. Their aim was to determine whether supplementation with probiotics — dietary supplements containing live microbes — benefit cognitive function.

They analyzed human studies with at least one live probiotic strain and at least one cognitive outcome performance measure: memory, attention, or executive function.

Their findings appear in the journal Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews. The work was partly funded by Winclove Probiotics.

After applying the criteria, the researchers identified 30 studies that met their eligibility requirements. They grouped the results by age groups: infants and children, young and middle-aged adults, and aging adults.

Three studies examined the effect of probiotic supplementation in infants born prematurely with very low birth weight. They received the probiotics from when they were first able to feed until they were discharged from the hospital.

The scientists followed these infants for periods ranging from 18 months to 5 years and found that probiotics had no significant impact on cognitive development.

Two studies conducted in full-term infants also reported similar results — probiotics had no significant effect on cognitive outcomes.

However, the review found that the studies in infants were limited due to a lack of data about whether the babies received breast milk. This is important because breast milk contains natural prebiotics, while formula does not.

Four studies assessed whether probiotic supplementation in people with cirrhosis — permanent liver scarring — affects the severity or development of hepatic encephalopathy.

Hepatic encephalopathy is a complication of cirrhosis that may cause impaired memory and intellectual functioning.

In one study, participants with hepatic encephalopathy who received probiotics for 60 days demonstrated a significant improvement after 30 days on all three cognitive tasks measured.

However, three studies found that in people with cirrhosis but no hepatic encephalopathy, probiotic supplementation failed to improve cognitive assessment scores after 8–12 weeks.

In a pilot study and a larger placebo-controlled trial that was not randomized, adult participants with HIV received probiotics for 6 months. Both studies found a significant improvement in standardized tests of immediate and delayed memory, verbal fluency, and visuospatial working memory.

In three studies that included people with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, or MDD, probiotic interventions were linked with improved cognitive outcomes. In the fibromyalgia study, participants took an 8-week probiotic treatment and demonstrated a reduction in impulsive choices.

Participants with chronic fatigue syndrome who received a 4-week course of probiotics plus an antibiotic, erythromycin, showed improved attention, processing speed, story memory, cognitive flexibility, and verbal fluency.

An 8-week study demonstrated improvements in short-term memory and visual search in participants with MDD who received probiotics with a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, a medication used for depression, compared with those who only received the serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

However, several studies testing for cognitive improvements in healthy adults had mixed results. Five showed inconsistent improvements in different cognitive measures, including stress-related processing, while two studies demonstrated no effect of probiotic supplementation.

Three studies investigated the effects of probiotic supplementation in adults with mild cognitive impairment. A pilot study found that 24 weeks of probiotic treatment improved mini-mental state exam (MMSE) scores. This is a screening test for cognitive impairment.

However, a larger follow-up placebo-controlled study showed significant improvement in MMSE scores in both the placebo and probiotic groups before treatment at 12 weeks.

A third study demonstrated significant improvements in three tasks related to memory and attention in participants with mild cognitive impairment receiving a probiotic supplement after 12 weeks.

Three studies in participants with Alzheimer’s disease who received probiotics for 12 weeks showed various effects on cognition. Two studies showed an improvement in MMSE scores, but one study, which used another test to measure cognition, did not find a significant effect.

Two additional 12-week studies measured the cognitive effects of probiotic supplementation in healthy aging adults.

The first study demonstrated a significant improvement in information processing and tasks involving executive functioning, compared with a placebo. The second found no difference in cognitive functioning between the group that received probiotics and the control group.

Dr. Vernon Williams, director of the Center for Sports Neurology and Pain Medicine at the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, in Los Angeles, spoke with MNT about the review’s findings. He was not involved in the investigation.

As Dr. Williams explained, the review demonstrates that “There is evidence, particularly in adults, of a relationship between gut health and the use of probiotics and cognitive functions.”

“I’m happy to see that there’s more and more objective evidence,” he continued, “and I’m hopeful that this kind of information becomes more widespread and used by practitioners who are treating individuals across the lifespan.”

Although he expressed excitement about the results, Dr. Kaiser noted the difficulties of drawing conclusions from a systematic review. In particular, he was concerned that participants had illnesses with different degrees of severity. “So you’re kind of comparing apples and oranges — particularly when you include people with [mild cognitive impairment] and AD.”

He added, “It’s very difficult to rule out confounding factors — whether it was the gut microbiome or the probiotics, or some other dietary or lifestyle factor.”

Dr. Williams commented on the need for additional research, particularly larger controlled trials of specific probiotics with a wider range of cognitive assessments. “There’s still a lot to be learned, in terms of the mechanisms of action,” he observed.

“This seems to be a safe approach in middle-aged and older adults. […] I don’t think anyone is saying that probiotics will cure cognitive dysfunction in and of themselves, but they may provide a significant piece of the puzzle and may be significant, in terms of their contribution to improving these kinds of symptoms.”

– Dr. Vernon Williams

Dr. Kaiser added: “Right now, we have nearly 6 million people in the [United States] with Alzheimer’s disease, and it’s predicted that within the coming decades, globally, there will be over 130 million people with dementia. This type of work that looks at potential modifiable risk factors and potential targets for prevention and treatment is critical.”

“This gives us something that we can do to stem the rising tide of […] dementia. Hopefully, [it] can be a key target of something that we can affect, either through lifestyle changes — what we eat and what we don’t eat — or through supplementation with different prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics,” he concluded.

Although Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reported he would desire to keep out of politics — and that he opposes all subsidies — his electric car or truck and photo voltaic enterprise is inquiring personnel to protest a policy proposal in California that would reduce solar incentives in the point out, in accordance to business correspondence obtained by CNBC.

There are at minimum 1.3 million residential photo voltaic clients in the state currently.

Amid other issues, the coverage proposal would cut down payments made to solar customers in California for excessive electrical power that their systems produce and deliver back to the grid. It would also insert month to month grid-connection costs for photo voltaic shoppers, effectively making rooftop solar extra costly for California inhabitants.

If carried out, the modifications could make it tougher for Tesla and its competition to provide clients on a residential photo voltaic set up in the condition or crank out earnings from units it leases.

Proponents say that these kinds of improvements to California’s web power metering coverage would help far more residents to set up vitality storage systems, like Tesla’s Powerwall or LG Chem’s RESU battery, at their properties through rebates, and deliver renewable electrical power to minimal-money or polluted neighborhoods.

The condition Community Utilities Fee sights latest costs as a large subsidy for owners who are typically effectively-off.

But solar electricity advocates have slammed the proposed improvements, as CNBC previously described, when the state’s major utilities have voiced their approval.

Here’s what Tesla is telling its strength employees to do in response to the coverage proposal (transcribed by CNBC):

Announcement – Net Electrical power Metering 3.

Day: Dec. 22, 2021

NEM 3. is a proposal below consideration at the California Community Utilities Commission (CPUC) that reduces the profit of heading solar for consumers of PG&E, SCE and SDG&E.

Speaking Factors

  • If adopted, the proposal would use to new shoppers that submit interconnection programs to include solar [by] Could 2022. It would also use to current shoppers on NEM 1. or NEM 2. right after their process has been in operation 15 decades.
  • Exported energy would be credited at wholesale charges (approximately $.04/kWh)
  • Residential solar prospects on NEM 3. would be necessary to fork out the utility a new fastened charge of $8/kW for every month, regardless of electricity employed. This arrives to roughly $50-$60 for every thirty day period for an typical dimensions solar program.
  • This proposal is not ultimate and can can modify in response to general public opinions. The community can express their belief to the CPUC by getting these steps:
  • Weigh in with the CPUC by publishing a comment to the Community Advisors Office.
  • Indication up to give a verbal comment right to the five commissioners at the CPUC’s following public conference on January 13.
  • Join the Solar Legal rights Alliance and obtain out all the techniques you can act to secure rooftop photo voltaic in California.
  • Help save Our Solar Rally – San Francisco (CPUC Making) and Los Angeles (Pershing Square) January 13 at 11 a.m.
  • Tesla is working with our companions in the photo voltaic and environmental local community to urge the CPUC and Governor’s business to adopt a extra realistic approach that would not punish photo voltaic customers.
