Democrats scrambling for reconciliation deal, seek to get infrastructure to Biden before overseas trip

Democrats are scrambling to access a deal on their significant reconciliation monthly bill this 7 days so that progressives will stop their blockade of the infrastructure invoice that’s stalled in the House right before President Biden leaves the U.S. for a local weather summit.

Biden will go away for Rome, Italy on Thursday to meet up with with Pope Francis and attend a G20 leaders’ summit. But for Democrats who want the U.S. to be a chief on local climate difficulties globally, the much more meaningful section of his global journey will take place Monday when he goes to Glasgow, Scotland for a two-day local climate discussion board.

“Here is the point: The president seemed at us in the eye and he mentioned, ‘I require this ahead of I go depict the United States in Glasgow,’” Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., stated on “Fox Information Sunday.”

“American prestige is on the line,” he additional.

REP. KHANNA Suggests BIDEN Advised DEMS RECONCILIATION Arrangement A Must Before GLASGOW Conference: ‘I Need to have THIS’

On Sunday, Senate Greater part Chief Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., visited Biden at his Wilmington, Delaware, dwelling for nonetheless much more talks on the reconciliation bill. Domestic Coverage Council Director Susan Rice, who is just one of the White Household aides most included in the negotiations, was also noticed in Wilmington.

The Involved Press described that Manchin could guidance the White House’s extremely complex prosperity tax in the reconciliation monthly bill. But there are still lots of remarkable challenges that Democrats will have to have to agree on, from little one care to tax credits to the specifics of local climate provisions.

And it truly is Khanna and his Congressional Progressive Caucus who blocked the bipartisan infrastructure monthly bill – which does include some climate provisions – from passing for the previous two months about people disagreements.

Progressives argue that the reconciliation invoice is more vital due to the fact it is anticipated to consist of much far more dollars on local weather difficulties, in addition to large expending on social applications. For that reason, they’ve demanded that a reconciliation bill move right before they will contemplate the infrastructure monthly bill.

But with still no arrangement there is certainly no possibility a reconciliation monthly bill could go – or even be created – just before Biden departs Thursday. So Khanna appeared to scale back progressives’ calls for for how nailed down the reconciliation invoice requirements to be for an infrastructure vote this 7 days.

“The president needs the reconciliation arrangement to go to Glasgow,” Khanna mentioned. “Which is what is gonna offer with local weather change, which is what’s gonna strike his aims of 50{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} reduction by 2030.”

Dwelling Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., appeared assured Sunday on CNN that a handshake deal will be enough to get progressives to permit the infrastructure invoice move, even as Democrats keep only a three-vote margin in the House.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper questioned Pelosi if “the framework will be agreed to or there will be a offer on the social safety internet bill.” Pelosi responded: “Let us simply call it an settlement.”

Addressing this on “Fox News Sunday,” Khanna reported that “the information make any difference,” but that if Biden offers assurances that a offer is in put, that could do the job.

“My view is that the president’s term saying, ‘I have the dedication of 50 senators and people 50 senators are going to vote for this invoice and below are the aspects,’ that which is great more than enough,” he reported.

But, Khanna mentioned, “various members have diverse sights about what is exactly excellent sufficient.” He added that if there are progressive senators who have an problem with the invoice, “then you will find a difficulty.”

Soon after an embarrassing defeat final month when they failed to get the Property to vote on the infrastructure monthly bill, moderate Household Democrats led by Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., surface to be prepared to go along with the reconciliation-deal-initially technique.

“We value the dedication that the ultimate reconciliation bundle introduced to the Residence can move the Senate,” Gottheimer and 8 fellow Property moderates stated in a statement very last 7 days. They also insisted that “it is critical that we vote on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill devoid of delay.”

But the assertion did not carry the variety of combative tone the team took very last thirty day period as it battled for the passage of the infrastructure bill devoid of thought of the reconciliation package.

Plus, several Democrats believe the actuality that the infrastructure monthly bill stalled is hurting Democratic Virginia gubernatorial applicant Terry McAuliffe in his amazingly near matchup from GOP nominee Glenn Youngkin.

A panic of getting rid of the governorship in what has been a reliably blue point out – and what that could signify for 2022 – could inspire some accelerated offer-making just as significantly as the future Glasgow summit.

“Lots of associates have an understanding of that we are doing the job extremely really hard to get a offer,” Khanna reported, “I comprehend we are near and I’m self-assured we’re going to get there.”

Mac Jones and Zach Wilson are going to see a lot of each other over their respective careers in New England and New York. And though there’s a small sample size, so far the matchup has gone squarely in Jones’ favor.

The Patriots beat the Jets 25-6 in Week 2 and are set up for a rematch here in Week 7. In the first meeting between the two, Jones far outperformed Wilson by simply being pedestrian. Jones was 22-for-30 with 186 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions.

Wilson, meanwhile was 19-for-33 with 210 yards but threw four interceptions and was sacked twice. Wilson’s first game against the Patriots has been indicative of much of the Jets’ offensive season to date.

The Jets currently rank last in points scored and 31st in total yards while Wilson leads the NFL with nine interceptions through his first six games. Defensively, they’re middle-of-the-road in terms of yards and points allowed but also don’t have an interception yet through six games.

The Patriots boast one of the best pass defenses, which makes sense given Wilson’s four interception game against them earlier this season. They’ve also defended the run well, though not as stoutly, meaning the Jets will need to be perfect in nearly every aspect to pull off the upset.

Can omega-3 help undo memory damage from processed foods?

  • Researchers investigated the effects of a diet high in processed foods on rats’ memory and whether omega-3 supplementation could stave off negative effects.
  • They found that omega-3 supplementation reduced some, but not all, neuroinflammatory markers.
  • The researchers note that their results do not mean that omega-3 supplements offset the negative health effects of processed foods and that people should ensure they consume adequate amounts of complex carbohydrates to improve their health.

Carbohydrates are an essential source of energy for the body. There are two groups of carbohydrates: simple and complex.

Complex carbohydrates take longer to digest and have many nutritional benefits that help regulate blood sugar levels.

By contrast, refined carbohydrates take less time to digest, have fewer nutritional benefits, and can increase blood sugar levels and increase the risk of health conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Health experts also link diets containing high levels of refined carbohydrates to learning and memory difficulties, as well as weight gain in rodents, primates, and humans.

Previous research has shown that aged, but not young, rats eating a short-term high fat diet had impaired memory and increased levels of inflammation in various parts of the brain. The researchers found, however, that a dietary intervention can reduce this.

Other research has observed that an omega-3 called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) can reduce inflammation in the brain relating to traumatic brain injury, stroke, and age-related cognitive decline.

Scientists do not know whether DHA protects against carbohydrate-related effects on cognition and neuroinflammation.

Little is also known on how a diet high in processed foods with high levels of refined carbohydrates and saturated fats and a lack of fiber affects the aging brain.

Recently, researchers from Ohio State University (OSU) and Inotiv Inc. conducted a study to understand the mechanisms behind the neurologic effects of processed diets and whether omega-3 supplementation could improve these effects.

They found that processed food diets impaired memory function among aged, but not young, rats and that this occurred alongside increased signs of inflammation. Omega-3 supplementation, however, improved these effects.

When asked whether these results were surprising, Dr. Ruth Barrientos, Ph.D., lead author of this research and associate professor at OSU, told Medical News Today:

“Yes, many studies, including our own, have focused on high fat and high sugar diets being detrimental to memory function, but few have examined the short-term effects of a highly processed diet. Given that many processed diets are low in fat, we had our doubts that we’d see any significant results. Not only did we observe very significant memory impairments, [but] we also saw significant weight gain with this diet.”

MNT also spoke with Dr. Andile Khathi, academic leader of Human Body and Function at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, who was not involved in the present study. He said,

“I think we’ve known for a while that prolonged consumption of highly processed foods can be detrimental to the body, but this study shows just how bad this can be for the brains of [older adults].”

“Other studies have shown how beneficial omega-3 can be, but this study has gone a step further to show how its consumption can be good for mental health,” he added.

The research appears in the journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity.

The researchers obtained 3- and 24-month old rats for the research. As female rats were not available in the older age category at the time of the study, the researchers exclusively used male rats.

At the beginning of the research, the younger rats weighed around 300 grams (g) on average, whereas the older rats weighed around 550 g.

The rats were housed two to a cage and randomly assigned to continue eating either a regular diet including 54{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} complex carbohydrates, a processed food diet including 63.3{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} refined carbohydrates, or a processed food diet and DHA supplements for 28 days.

After this period, the scientists placed the rats separately in a conditioning chamber, where the rats heard a tone for 15 seconds and then received a 2-second footshock. Four days later, the scientists reintroduced the rats to the cage and the sound to assess their fear response.

While there were no differences in freezing behavior between the different groups of rats during the conditioning phase, the researchers observed that older rats exclusively fed a processed diet froze significantly less in both fear experiments than older animals on other diet plans.

The researchers also found that both groups of rats that ate a processed food diet experienced weight gain similar to that of the rats on the alternative diet. Moreover, older animals were more affected than younger ones.

After these experiments, the researchers isolated different areas of the rats’ brains to analyze their RNA.

These analyses revealed that the rats that ate a processed food diet alone had significantly higher inflammatory gene expression than those that consumed the alternative diet, or a processed food diet with DHA supplementation.

The authors found, however, that DHA supplementation did not impact all genes that the study investigated.

According to the researchers, this means that DHA supplements do not necessarily offset the negative effects of highly refined foods and that people should focus on overall diet improvement by increasing complex carbohydrate and fiber intake.

“Processed and refined foods are unfamiliar to our gut microbiome, which has evolved over thousands of years, so these foods can provoke an inflammatory immune response, almost as if the processed food was a pathogen,” Dr. Barrientos explained.

“This peripheral immune response can easily trigger inflammation in the brain, and due to some brain immune cells in the aging brain being sensitized, this neuroinflammation can become exaggerated. Exaggerated neuroinflammation in turn is known to impair various memory-forming and maintenance mechanisms,” she added.

“The omega-3 fatty acid DHA and its metabolites are known to resolve inflammation, and we believe that explains the protective effects.”

– Dr. Ruth Barrientos

“Many studies have shown how the chronic consumption of refined carbohydrates and saturated fats can lead to various metabolic aberrations underpinned by inflammation,” Dr. Khathi explained. “The hippocampus, which is responsible for memory, is quite sensitive to metabolic changes, especially in [older adults].”

“This could explain why the consumption of these highly processed foods has such negative effects on memory. The consumption of unsaturated/polyunsaturated fats has been found to be good for various parts of the body, so it stands to reason that it could be good for the protection of brain structures such as the hippocampus,” he added.

The researchers conclude that a processed food diet with refined carbohydrates impairs cognitive function, increases neuroinflammatory gene expression, and increases weight gain in aged rats. They also found that DHA supplementation can reduce this effect.

One limitation of the study is that the researchers do not know exactly how much food each rat ate, as the rats were housed two to a cage.

“While intriguing, this research needs to be replicated in humans to determine if the same effect is seen,” Dr. Claire Sexton, D.Phil., director of Scientific Programs and Outreach at the Alzheimer’s Association, who was not involved in the study, told MNT. She continued,

“To date, there isn’t a single food, ingredient, or supplement that — through rigorous scientific research — has been shown to prevent, treat, or cure Alzheimer’s or other dementia in humans.”

Dr. Sara Imarisio, head of research at Alzheimer’s Research UK, who was not involved in the study, also spoke with MNT. She said, “What is not clear from the study is whether DHA could have similar effects in people or whether it acts against biological mechanisms that cause dementia.”

“A small number of studies have specifically linked omega-3 to better heart health and circulation, but research has so far not conclusively shown that taking omega-3 can reduce memory and thinking problems.”

Dr. Imarisio continued, “This early stage study can’t tell us whether DHA may have an impact on diseases like Alzheimer’s, and further work is needed to explore any possible link.”

In future studies, the researchers aim to examine and define the effects of processed food diets on the gut and to include female rats in their research.

NFL Fashion Files – The Best Pregame Attire Ahead Of A Busy Week 7

The seventh NFL Sunday of the 2021 season has arrived, and plenty of players are hoping for their fair share of luck as we reach the halfway mark.

Several players will be facing their former teams or visiting old stomping grounds while two AFC powers (Kansas City Chiefs at Tennessee Titans) square off in a rematch of last season’s conference title game. Heightened stakes are commonplace as an NFL season finds its stride, so it’s only right for everyone to dress the part.

With several highly anticipated matchups to look forward to, let’s check out the best pregame threads of Week 7’s Sunday slate.

QB Aaron Rodgers, TE Robert Tonyan Jr., WR Davante Adams, RB Aaron Jones

The Packers have bounced back in a big way since their 38-3 loss at the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. Green Bay is just the second team in league history to win five straight games immediately following a season-opening loss by 35-plus points (1991 Detroit Lions).

To the surprise of very few, Rodgers has remained every bit as cool, calm and collected as he appears in this week’s pregame attire as the fall weather sets in. He has tossed 12 touchdowns to just one interception during Green Bay’s winning streak.

Week 7 could bring more timely luck for the Packers, who have the NFL’s best home record (16-2) since Matt LaFleur became head coach in 2019.

Tonyan, who has started four games this season after catching a career-high 11 touchdowns in 2020, sported a similar look to his QB on “National Tight Ends Day.”

This football holiday was first created by George Kittle in 2018 to be celebrated every fourth Sunday of October.

Adams, who enters this week one touchdown reception shy of tying Sterling Sharpe (65) for the third most in Packers history, made sure to stunt with the proper kick game ahead of taking the field.

And of course, Jones is never far away with his trademark sombrero. Hopefully it can help snap his season-long streak of three games without a rushing touchdown against the league’s 19th-ranked rush defense.

Kansas City Chiefs

QB Patrick Mahomes, WR Josh Gordon, TE Travis Kelce, S Tyrann Mathieu, S Juan Thornhill

Ever sharp and focused, Mahomes enters Week 7 with another dapper pregame number as Kansas City seeks back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Despite tossing an interception in five straight games, the 2018 MVP does have multiple touchdown passes in each of his last nine starts dating back to last season.

When asked about his team’s progress up to this point, Mahomes was honest about how he feels: “We’re still nowhere near where we want to be.”

Fortunately for Kansas City fans, the squad does look quite prepared to handle business and find its stride.

QB Sam Darnold

Carolina’s fourth-year signal-caller kept his pregame look simple ahead of visiting MetLife Stadium as an opponent for the first time in his career, as the Panthers prepare to face the New York Giants. Though Darnold won’t be suiting up against the New York Jets, with whom he spent his first three seasons as a pro, being back in New York could help right the ship for Carolina.

Last week, he posted his lowest single-game completion rate of the season (41.5 percent) en route to the Panthers’ third straight loss since kicking off 2021 with a 3-0 record.

New York Jets

QB Zach Wilson

A much-needed bye week could help the Jets bounce back from their own struggles. Wilson broke out the windbreaker ahead of his first road visit against the New England Patriots, who have a 12-0 home record against rookie quarterbacks since Bill Belichick became head coach.

New York will most certainly lean on Wilson to warm up its offense this week. The Jets have recorded only 79 yards and remain scoreless in the first quarter this season, making them the first team since the 2008 Lions to go scoreless in the opening frame through six games.

QB Joe Burrow, WR Tee Higgins, S Vonn Bell

It is incredibly easy for the Bengals to both look and feel good entering Week 7. The team’s four wins have already tied last season’s total as they enter Sunday’s showdown with the AFC-leading Baltimore Ravens (5-1).

Burrow & Co. will have their work cut out for them given the team’s recent struggles against its division rival. Cincy scored only six combined points in two games against the Ravens last season and have scored only one offensive touchdown over the past three meetings.

Tennessee Titans

QB Ryan Tannehill, Puppies

Whose heart isn’t warmed by a litter of puppies?

The Titans have a partnership with the Nashville Humane Association and Mars Petcare, so it’s only right to open the runway for these furry friends.

Tannehill, who ranks fifth in QBR since becoming Tennessee’s starting quarterback midway through 2019, made sure to get his fair share of good luck from a new friend.

Earlier this week, it was announced Tannehill teamed up with Mars Petcare to ensure these puppies and many others can find a safe home.

Baltimore Ravens

WR Marquise Brown, WR Rashod Bateman, S Chuck Clark, CB Marlon Humphrey, FB Patrick Ricard

Brown is enjoying arguably his finest season since turning pro in 2019. He is averaging a career-best 15.2 yards per reception and is on pace for his first season with 1,000 receiving yards. That said, the third-year pro is coming off a season-low 35 receiving yards last week.

Fortunately, though, few things can provide a proper confidence booster better than the neckwear Brown sported as he entered M&T Stadium.

Well, of course, that depends on whether you ask Ricard on the finer points of fashion.
