What channel is 49ers vs. Cowboys on today? Time, TV schedule for NFL wild-card playoff game

Cowboys-49ers is one of the most storied rivalries, not just in football, but in all of sports. The Cowboys lead the all-time series 19-17-1 and provided one of the most famous games, and plays in NFL history when “The Catch” happened in 1981’s NFC title game.

Then, in the 1990s, as the Cowboys went on their Super Bowl runs, they had to go through — you guessed it — the 49ers. But both teams also went through down periods, particularly in the 2000s and 2010s, as the two teams haven’t met in the postseason since 1998.

MORE: Who are the favorites to win Super Bowl 56 in 2022?

This year, though, both teams exceeded expectations. Dallas won the NFC East with the league’s best scoring offense and best total offense. But they were equally good on defense, ranking seventh in scoring defense, second in third down defense all while cornerback Trevon Diggs and linebacker/edge rusher Micah Parsons both had breakout years.

They’re going up a 49ers team that’s been laden with injuries throughout the season at various positions, including quarterback, running back, tackle and tight end. As a result, they’ve had to manufacture offense in myriad ways.

BENDER: Ranking the playoff quarterbacks for 2022 from best to worst

One of the most exciting players of the year is skill position player Deebo Samuel, who led the team with 1,405 receiving yards and six touchdowns, but also added 365 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground, showing he can do a bit of everything. And he’s needed to as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo posted less than a 2:1 TD-INT ratio, though he did complete over 68 percent of his passes.

The real hallmark of the 49ers this year has been defense, though. Defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans’ unit ranked ninth in scoring defense and third in total defense to go along with 48 sacks and 21 forced fumbles.

This should be a strength-on-strength matchup when these two teams face off. Sporting News has all the info you need to catch this game in action.

Unfortunately, they won’t get that opportunity this week. The 2022 NFL playoffs have begun and that means there will be no more Thursday night games for the rest of the season.

Is there a ‘Thursday Night Football’ game tonight?

No, there is not a “Thursday Night Football” game on Thursday, Jan. 13. “Thursday Night Football” is over for this season and won’t be back until the 2022 NFL regular season begins.

The official “Thursday Night Football” program will return to action in Week 2 of the 2022 NFL season, per usual. There will be a Thursday night game, the NFL’s season opener, in Week 1, that will likely feature the Super Bowl winner against a projected top title contender. That said, that game is technically a “Sunday Night Football” broadcast, so “TNF won’t officially return until Week 2 of the 2022 season. But there will be Thursday football starting in Week 1.

The last “TNF” game of the season aired on Dec. 23, when the Titans beat the 49ers 20-17 in a back-and-forth battle. The NFL doesn’t schedule Thursday games during the playoffs so that teams can have adequate time to rest, recover and prepare for their next opponent.

That said, the NFL will host a “Monday Night Football” game for the first time during the 2022 NFL postseason, so fan will get three days of NFL broadcasts this week with games on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Bills-Patriots playoff game may be one of the coldest in Buffalo history

What channel is Chiefs vs. Broncos on today? Time, TV schedule for NFL Saturday game

The Chiefs took a hit in last week’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. They fell to 11-5, second in the AFC behind the Tennessee Titans, who are also 11-5. To make matters worse, the Chiefs’ 6-5 conference record puts them behind the Titans (7-4) in the conference. They also lost their head to head, so the only chance the Chiefs have of picking up the No. 1 seed is to beat the Broncos in the final week of the season while the Titans lose.

The reason this means so much is simple. The Chiefs are 7-2 at home, whereas they’re 4-3 on the road. The home field advantage at Arrowhead is tangible, and while the Chiefs have the talent to beat just about anyone in the NFL, any edge helps in the playoffs where things get weird. We’re also in uncharted territory with an 18-week season, so staying in friendly confines would be helpful.

MORE: Chiefs playoff picture breakdown

All of this, however, is moot if the Chiefs lose to the Broncos on Saturday. Denver is 7-9 on the season, but it’s been a rough second half of the year. They were beaten by the Chiefs 22-9 when these two teams first met in Kansas City, and that was in a poor showing for Patrick Mahomes. The Broncos had 404 yards to the Chiefs’ 216, but three turnovers ultimately did the Broncos in.

While the season is over for Denver in terms of playoff hopes, there’s a lot to build off of there. It was fairly widely accepted that the Broncos’ 3-0 start was a mirage caused by a bizarrely easy strength of schedule, but looking ahead to next season it’s clear there are several key holes to be filled. They won’t have an overwhelmingly impressive draft pick, so the Broncos will have to be smart to address those needs, specifically at quarterback with Teddy Bridgewater’s 1-year deal expiring and Drew Lock showing signs of improvement down the stretch. Lock is expected to start against Kansas City.

Here’s what you need to know to watch Chiefs vs. Broncos this Saturday, including kickoff time, TV channels, and the full Week 18 NFL schedule.
