The 3 richest families in the world all live in America. Here’s who they are

The U.S. is home to the three richest families in the world.

The Walton, Mars and Koch families have topped the list of wealthiest clans in the world, according to a September report from Bloomberg.

The families have remained in their positions as the richest in the U.S. and in the world for several years. That’s true even for the Waltons, who have given away millions of dollars during the last year, Bloomberg reported

Though the descendants of Walmart founder Sam Walton are the richest family in the world, their wealth, as reported by Bloomberg, doesn’t quite reach the wealth of the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, who is currently worth $290.3 billion, according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List.

The Waltons’ wealth does surpass the wealth of Jeff Bezos, who is currently worth $205.4 billion, according to Forbes. However, the Mars and Koch families have not reached Bezos’ wealth, according to Bloomberg’s September report.

Disney World pauses COVID-19 vaccine mandate

Walt Disney World confirmed to FOX Business Saturday that it has paused its COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

“We believe that our approach to mandatory vaccines has been the right one as we’ve continued to focus on the safety and well-being of our cast members and guests, and at this point, more than 90{cfdf3f5372635aeb15fd3e2aecc7cb5d7150695e02bd72e0a44f1581164ad809} of active Florida-based cast members have already verified that they are fully vaccinated,” a Disney spokesperson said. “We will address legal developments as appropriate.”

An internal memo from Disney said that the pause will remain in effect as the company “assesses the new state laws protecting workers from vaccine mandates,” according to FOX 35 Orlando. The station said it had obtained a copy of the internal memo sent to Disney cast members.

DISNEY CRUISE LINE VACCINE MANDATE: PASSENGERS 5 AND OLDER MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19

Nick Caturano, a cast member at Disney World for more than 16 years, told FOX Business on Saturday that he had heard managers were leaking e-mails detailing the move two hours before the cast members received them.

“For me personally, I was trying to reach out to Disney and reason with them when I wrote my open letter on the website. But, the legislation really put it over the edge, and it looks like Disney must have had an emergency meeting, I’m guessing. And, I heard probably around noon that managers were leaking that they were getting these emails that they were going to stop the mandates. And, as regular cast members, we got it [at around] 2 p.m,” Caturano explained.

Caturano runs the website GoofyVaccine.com, which features an open letter to the company questioning Disney’s vaccine requirements.

In July, Disney said it would make vaccinations mandatory for all on-site salaried and non-union hourly employees in the U.S., giving them a deadline of the end of September.

In August, Disney said it would require union employees to show proof of vaccination by Oct. 22 to remain employed, with the option to request exemptions for medical or religious reasons.

Caturano said his experience becoming infected with COVID-19 was partially what “got [him] to stand up.”

“That and a lot of cast members were looking to me because they were really scared. They didn’t want to lose their job, but they were scared to take the shot because everybody … a lot of us felt that it just wasn’t vetted long enough,” he said, “We weren’t against the vaccine. We just didn’t think that there was enough … We just thought it was too soon to totally trust it, and we just wanted to wait … And then, that just led me to take a stand and I just wanted to reason with Disney, then it turned into something else.”

All of this comes after Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed special session legislation that puts new restrictions on COVID-19 vaccine mandates by employers.

“I told Floridians that we would protect their jobs, and today we made that the law,” DeSantis said in a press release this week. “Nobody should lose their job due to heavy-handed COVID mandates, and we had a responsibility to protect the livelihoods of the people of Florida. I’m thankful to the Florida Legislature for joining me in standing up for freedom.”

Effective immediately, private employer COVID-19 vaccine mandates are prohibited. Employers who violate employee health protections will be fined up to $50,000 per violation. Government entities may not require COVID-19 vaccinations of anyone. Educational institutions may not require students to be vaccinated against COVID-19. School districts may not have school face mask policies or quarantine healthy students. Parents and students may sue violating school districts and recover costs and attorney’s fees.

Another bill signed by DeSantis prevents the state health officer from mandating vaccines during a public health emergency. He also approved a bill directing the state to begin considering a withdrawal from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which drafted White House vaccine requirements for private businesses with more than 100 employees.

“We’re making sure that people have a right to earn a living, people have a right to have protections in their place of employment and that parents have protections to be able to direct the upbringing of their kids,” the governor said in a signing ceremony

Democrats have criticized the bills as politically motivated and dangerous to public health.

“As we would expect, Disney has amended its vaccination policy to comply with Florida law. We believe that all companies in Florida will likewise follow the law signed by Governor DeSantis this week,” the governor’s office said in a statement issued to FOX 35. “Nobody should lose his or her job over these mandates. Disney is a major employer in Florida, and we are proud that the ‘happiest place on Earth’ is here in our state. Governor DeSantis’ leadership has saved countless jobs and livelihoods before this holiday season.

“We hope Disney and any other company that has suspended or terminated workers due to vaccine mandates will consider rehiring them.”

Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., will reimagine its holiday celebration this year. From Nov. 6 to Dec. 30, the resort’s four theme parks and Disney Springs will be decked with festive décor and offer special merchandise, enchanting

Caturano pointed out to FOX Business that case rates in Florida have dropped since their spike this summer.

“I love that DeSantis has been pushing it, fighting for all of us. He really has been a voice for us, and I think he’s really standing behind the science,” Caturano said.

Florida, especially Miami-Dade County, still ranks among the states with the highest case rates, according to the John’s Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.

COVID-19 cases in the U.S. are rising once again, particularly in cold-weather states like Michigan.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), said this week that there has been an uptick in hospitalizations among people who have been vaccinated but not boosted.

However, he noted, the majority of hospitalizations are still among those who are unvaccinated.

Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that nearly 196 million Americans are fully vaccinated and 33.5 million people have received a booster dose.

“We have 62 million Americans eligible for vaccines who are still not vaccinated. The data that I show you do not lie. Vaccines protect you, your family and your community,” Fauci said, speaking alongside CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky. “And importantly, it is not too late, as Dr. Walensky has said. Get vaccinated now.”

The Atlanta Braves, up 3-2 over the Houston Astros in this best-of-seven series, are a win away from their first World Series championship since 1995. On Sunday, the Astros’ put nine runs on the board and forced a game six despite allowing a first-inning grand slam in a comeback win. That victory forced a Game 6 back in Houston on Tuesday night. The Braves will get another shot at clinching the title, while the Astros will be looking force that decisive Game 7 with a win.

Now for the essentials for Game 6.

The big story going in is that the Astros will be starting Garcia on just three-days’ rest. In his Game 3 start, he allowed one run in 3 2/3 innings (72 pitches) but struggled with his command and control. Garcia did, however, maintain most of the velocity gains he showed in his final ALCS start after making some mechanical tweaks. Garcia has made only one start on short rest in his career. That was in late April of this year against the Mariners. He pitched well in that outing, but he was coming off a brief relief appearance instead of a start in which he threw 72 pitches. Jose Urquidy had been lined up to start Game 6 for Houston, but manager Dusty Baker made the switch after Urquidy worked a scoreless inning of relief in Game 5.

As for Fried, he’s made four starts this postseason, and over that span of 21 2/3 innings he has an ERA of 5.40 with 23 strikeouts against three walks. In his last start, Houston cuffed him around in Game 2 for six runs in five innings.

Prediction

The guess here is that Garcia struggles on short rest, and the Braves take an early lead. Fried finds his level and gives the Braves some length. The Braves close it out in six.

Pick: Braves 4, Astros 2

The Astros’ bats finally came alive in Game 5 as they staved off elimination by the Braves for at least one more game in the 2021 World Series. A win looked improbable early, though.

Atlanta opened its half of the first inning with a grand slam by Adam Duvall, but from there almost all of offensive output for the rest of the night belonged to Houston.

The Astros eventually won 9-5 in Atlanta. They received timely production from an unlikely source — catcher Martin Maldonado, who hit just .172 in the regular season. He had three RBIs and drew a walk, two things he struggled with in the regular season.

FAGAN: Max Fried, three other struggling stars who will shape WS

Game 5 also featured Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman launching a 460-foot home run, the longest of the postseason so far, and a second consecutive bullpen game by the Braves, which produced just mixed results.

The Braves still sit one win away from the franchise’s first World Series title since 1995, while Houston is looking for its first since 2017. Atlanta’s Brian Snitker and Houston’s Dusty Baker are going after their first career World Series managerial title. Baker holds the distinction of having the most regular-season managerial wins without a World Series crown.

World Series score: Astros rally vs. Braves in Game 5, stay alive after allowing first-inning grand slam

The Houston Astros fended off elimination on Sunday night and denied the Atlanta Braves the chance to win the 2021 World Series at their home ballpark. The Astros defeated the Atlanta Braves in Game 5 of the World Series by a 9-5 final (box score) to force Game 6 and a return trip to Houston. The Astros still trail in the best-of-seven series by a 3-2 margin, and Atlanta remains one win away from its first championship since 1995.

The Astros fell behind early on Sunday, with Atlanta center fielder Adam Duvall hitting the ninth first-inning grand slam in postseason history. Nevertheless, the Astros were able to rally and tie the game at 4-4 in the third inning. Freddie Freeman then put the Braves back up with a solo home run. The Astros weren’t done, though, as Houston received contributions from unlikely sources against Atlanta’s usually reliable bullpen.

Catcher Martin Maldonado drove in three runs on the night, and Marwin Gonzalez plated a pair with a pinch-hit single. (We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that Zack Greinke — yes, the pitcher — also recorded an historic pinch-hit single.)

Historically, MLB teams who lead a series by a 3-2 margin have gone on to win said series 69 percent of the time. That bodes well for the Braves, who will now have two more chances to win another contest — and, thereby, the championship.

Now for takeaways from Game 5.

Duvall powered up early

Adam Duvall has been yet another post-Ronald Acuña Jr. revelation for the Braves this season, in terms of both his power and his stabilizing glove in center. Early in Game 5, it was the bat that made the difference, as Duvall authored just the third first-inning grand slam in World Series history:

And here’s this:

That’s not only elevating for power against one of the most extreme ground-ballers in the game today, it’s also doing so with two outs. For Duvall, that upped the “clutch factor” of the moment. When Duvall stepped to the plate in the first, the Braves had a 57.1 percent chance of winning Game 5. After he touched the plate to give the Braves a 4-0 lead, the Braves had an 84.3 percent chance of prevailing. That’s a huge jump, to say the least. Unfortunately for Atlanta, the club couldn’t capitalize.

Houston was relentless at the plate all night

That 4-0 lead the Braves barged to in the first didn’t cause the Astros to give up. In the second, the theretofore struggling Alex Bregman cracked an RBI double, and then Martin Maldonado cut the Atlanta lead with a sac fly. In the third, Carlos Correa made it 4-3 when his double plated Jose Altuve, who had earlier reached on a Dansby Swanson error. Then Michael Brantley hustled home on a Yuli Gurriel ground out to tie the score.

The Braves retook the lead in the bottom of the third on a massive, 460-foot solo home run from Freddie Freeman, and that held until the fifth. At that point, the Astros pieced together their biggest inning of the night. Braves manager Brian Snitker opted to intentionally walk Alex Bregman and load the bases for Maldonado with two outs. Maldonado, crowding the plate and showing almost no willingness to swing, drew a five-pitch walk to tie the game again. Then pinch-hitter Marwin Gonzalez dumped a single to left that drove in two more and gave Houston a 7-5 lead.

In the seventh, the Astros added an insurance run — again with two outs — as Maldonado drove in his third run of the night with a line drive single that brought Kyle Tucker home. Carlos Correa tacked on another, yes, two-out run in the eighth with a single that brought Altuve in to score. That was all more than enough to send the series back to Houston.

Zack Greinke achieved a rare feat

Game 4 starting pitcher Zack Greinke, thanks in part to the Astros’ diminished bench, garnered a pinch-hitting appearance in Game 5, and he made the most of it:

That sharp, line drive single to the opposite field left the bat at 105.9 mph, which made it Houston’s hardest-hit ball of Game 5. So that was no cheapie. As for rare feat noted above, here we go:

However, the Astros weren’t able to cash in on Greinke’s plate-work, as Jose Altuve flew out and Michael Brantley struck out to end the frame.

The Houston bullpen dominated

All five of the Braves’ runs were charged to Astros starter Framber Valdez, who lasted just 2 2/3 innings. After Valdez was lifted, five Astros relievers combined for 6 1/3 shutout innings. Along the way, they gave up just four hits and struck out six with no walks. Particularly key were Phil Maton and Kendall Graveman, who each worked two innings. For the series, the Houston bullpen now boasts an ERA of 1.75, which is more than a full run lower than Atlanta’s mark of 2.76.

The Braves still have the edge, but it’s been diminished

That’s an obvious thing to say, given that Atlanta still leads the best-of-seven series by a count of three games to two. Teams up 3-2 who opened the series on the road have — across the history of MLB best-of-seven postseason series — won the series 61.8 percent of the time. That’s a high figure, but consider that teams up 3-1 who opened up on the road have gone on to win the series more than 80 percent of the time. That’s what the Braves squandered by blowing that 4-0 lead in Game 5.

Need more concerning news, Braves fans? Teams up 3-2 have won Game 6 just 28.6 percent of the time. In other words, history suggests we have a strong chance of this going the full seven games.
