    The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday arrested Jharkhand mining secretary Pooja Singhal in connection with an alleged money laundering case, news agency PTI reported. 

    The arrest comes hours after Singhal appeared before the ED with the money-laundering probe linked to alleged embezzlement of MGNREGA funds and other charges.

    Madhya Pradesh: Fire breaks out at chemical factory in Dhar district

    A fire broke out at a chemical factory in the in Pithampur town of Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. 

    “Fire broke out in sector-2. Fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire. 1 person was injured and was sent to Indore for further treatment,” Tarunendra Singh Baghel, CSP, Pithampur, told news agency ANI.

    Al-Jazeera reporter killed during Israeli raid in West Bank

    An Al-Jazeera journalist was shot and killed while covering an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank town of Jenin early Wednesday, the Palestinian health ministry said.

    It said Shireen Abu Akleh, a well-known Palestinian reporter for the broadcaster’s Arabic language channel, was shot and died soon afterward. Another Palestinian journalist working for the Jerusalem-based Al-Quds newspaper was wounded but in stable condition.

    The health ministry said the reporters were hit by Israeli fire. The military did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

ED arrested Pooja Singhal after questioning her for two days in a money laundering case linked to alleged embezzlement of MGNREGA funds in Jharkhand’s Khunti district.

Jharkhand mining secretary Pooja Singhal is a 2000 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. ED officials said she will be produced before a designated court in Ranchi soon to hear the money laundering case against her. (ANI)

19.4% of Indian households do not use toilet facilities, most in Bihar: NFHS

  • According to the NFHS, 69.3 per cent of households have access to improved toilet facilities – or those that are not shared. 8.4 per cent of households have access to shared toilet facilities and 2.9 per cent have access to unimproved facilities.
