The Memphis Grizzlies have their backs against a wall as they return home to host the Golden State Warriors for Game 5.
The Grizzlies lost a heartbreaker in Game 4, letting a fourth-quarter lead slip away as the Warriors took a commanding 3-1 lead in the series. Memphis fought hard without superstar guard Ja Morant, who missed the contest due to a knee injury suffered in Game 3.
In Morant’s absence, the Grizzlies’ supporting cast stepped up as they had all season, with five different players scoring in double figures. Reserve guard Tyus Jones took on the biggest role change, going for 19 points, six rebounds and five assists as the team’s interim starting point guard for Morant.
If Morant were to miss Game 5, expect Jones to remain in the starting lineup.
The scariest part for Memphis was that the Warriors were able to pull off a win despite extremely inefficient shooting nights from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Curry shot 10-for-25 from the field and 4-for-14 from 3 while Thompson went 6-for-20 from the field and 0-for-7 from 3. Even reserve guard Jordan Poole had an off-night, going 4-for-12 from the field and 0-for-3 from 3.
Even with those struggles, Curry was able to close out the Grizzlies down the stretch by attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line, going a perfect 8-for-8 in the final 45 seconds of the game.
